Introduction and prospect of the systematics study of Siganidae in China

  • Rabbitfishes of the family Siganidae are subjected to Perciformes,Acanthuroidei,and distribute throughout the tropical and subtropical IndoPacific and Eastern Mediterranean region. There are 27 known species in the family, which are classified into 1 genus Siganus, 2 subgenera Siganus and Lo.Up to now, 13 species have been recorded in China and the fishes are widely distributed in the East China Sea, South China Sea and the continental coast of Taiwan . This paper reviews the researching significance, the history of the taxonomy studies, biological characters and the prospect of studies of the siganids in China in order to make people have the further understanding on them.
