Effect of dietary angelica polysaccharide (AP) on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, serum immune and serum biochemical indices of juvenile golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus)

  • To study the effects of dietary angelica polysaccharide (AP) on the growth performance, hepatic antioxidant capacity, serum immune and serum biochemical indices of juvenile golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus), we designd six diets with addition of 0 (control group), 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.20%, 0.40% and 0.80% AP, respectively. The fish (4.99±0.08) g were assigned randomly into six groups with three replicates per group and 20 fish per replicate. They were cultured in cages and fed twice daily for eight weeks. The results show that the final mass, weight gain rate and specific growth rate were not significantly affected by AP level (P>0.05). The superoxide dismutase activity and total antioxidant capacity of the fish fed with 0.10% AP diet were significant higher than those of 0.80% AP group and the control group (P<0.05). The contents of Complement 3 and Complement 4 of 0.10% and 0.20% AP groups were significant higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). The fish fed with 0.10% AP diet showed higher lysozyme activity than those in the control group (P<0.05), but with lower transaminase activity, cholesterol and triglycerides than the fish of 0.40%, 0.80% AP groups and the control group (P<0.05). In conclusion, dietary AP can improve the antioxidant capacity and immunity of juvenile golden pompano but not the growth. Suitable AP supplementation level in diet of juvenile golden pompano is 0.10%.
