Effects of acute handling stress on liver tissue and oxidative stress of juvenile Eleutheronema tetradactylum

  • To understand the effects of acute handling stress on liver tissue and oxide stress of juvenile Eleutheronema tetradactylum, we sampled at different time after handling stress out of water and then observed the change of liver tissue and detected the activities of antioxidant enzymes. The results show that with prolongation of time of water stress, the degree of liver tissue injury appeared a trend of rising and then decreasing, and the basic structure of liver was similar with that of the control group at 24th hour. The SOD and CAT had the same changing trend, i.e., increased at 2nd hour significantly after the stress (P < 0.05), reaching the maximum value, and then began to drop until they were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05).The MDA content increased at first and then decreased at 2nd~12th hour during the stress, and increased after 12th hour. The GSH content had no significant change in the first two hours (P > 0.05), followed by a decreasing-increasing trend, but its content was still lower than that in the control group significantly (P <  0.05).During the first two hours of acute handling stress, the T-AOC activity increased significantly (P < 0.05), then decreased gradually, significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05).It is concluded that the handling stress out of water did have some effects on the liver tissue and antioxidant enzymes of E.tetradactylum, but with extension of stress time, the tissue structure and antioxidant activity had certain recovery.
