Research progress on information analysis of statoliths in Cephalopods

  • Increments structure and chemical composition of the statoliths are quite stable and record information about biological, physical and chemical environmental characteristics of different stages of life history. Information analysis can reveal the life history of cephalopods and the environmental condition and its varieties. Thishas important theoretical significance, and will be broadly applied. Based on the domestic and foreign researches on information analysis of statoliths in Cephalopods during recent years, the paper summarized the current status of daily growth increment and microchemistry of statoliths in Cephalopods; and generalized its application in fishery resource and environmental science. In the meanwhile, the paper made the prospects on direction and content of the future research.
